Mea and Toby // September Wedding

The Great British weather especially in Hampshire – You can always count on it, right?... After weeks of wonderful sunny weather, the day of Mea and Toby’s tipi wedding rolled around… and so did a storm! But as you can see from the photos, the rain didn’t dampen their spirits! Why would it, when you know how to throw a party!

Mea and the bridal party started the day in style by getting ready on an incredible yacht in Lymington Harbour, Hampshire. You can tell from the photos that Mea was calm as a cucumber. There was no way that the weather was going to affect her mood – She explained that she had been waiting for this day to come for some time and that both her and Toby couldn’t wait to start their lives together! Plus, an epic adventure to South America was on the horizon for the honeymoon – Enough sunshine to last a lifetime!

Meanwhile, Toby was calming his nerves by playing a round of golf at Walhampton Golf Course – which was also the location of their excellent Tipi wedding venue for the majority of the celebrations. After sealing the win against his best man on the final hole (YAAAS!) he persisted in helping set up extra gazebos (which is quite the challenge against strong winds!) in an attempt to shelter the guests from the wind and rain. Back at the best man’s home, Toby got an excellent gift from his bride to be – a 1913 guidebook on ‘Don’t for Husbands’ along with a few other treats!

After Toby arrived in style in a vintage car at the The Lymington Community Association for the ceremony, it wasn’t long until Mea made her way down the aisle in front of family and friends. The newly-weds then hopped back in the beautiful car and made their way to Quay Hill in Lymington for a portrait session. The quay is beautiful in all weathers, but Toby and Mea certainly were a ray of sunshine for the locals, who wished them congratulations as we strolled around the cobbled streets.

Festival Themed Wedding in Lymington

So you’re probably thinking, what… they spent the rest of the day outside, in a storm, in a Tipi?... Absolutely they did. And the key to the success of their wonderful day was the fact that, because it was a Tipi Wedding, it felt like a festival! An outside bar, 3 take-away food options (freshly made pizza, curry or crepes), face painting and live bands were just a few of the treats that guest were spoilt to. People came prepared with wellies and waterproofs and no matter where you looked, people were grinning from ear to ear, including the newly-weds. Once you know how to capture that festival vibe, you can’t really go wrong!

Only one part of the day may have made Toby and Mea’s eyes water – No, not the speeches, which were hilarious and heart-felt affairs. They had hired a comedian to perform a stand-up routine to the crowd. It was an excellent touch to the day, but let’s just say that someone had forgotten to inform him that there were kids in the audience… queue hilarious jokes containing strong language that had some of the parents wincing, but Toby and Mea were throwing their heads back in laughter!

Wedding first dance in Tipi

Live Bands at Weddings

The best part about their choice to have a selection of live bands throughout the day meant that the music was varied, eclectic and vibrant – there was something for everyone! By the time the evening came around, pretty much everyone had had at least one turn on the dance floor. A few minutes after their first dance, Toby and Mea disappeared, only to return sporting painted faces, ready to party into the night…

Thank you to Toby and Mea for letting me photograph your wedding day – it really was one heck of a party!
